Have you ever wondered if your whereabouts are safe or unsafe?
Sensafety gives you the opportunity to rate the safety situation at your location and to explore how safety is commonly perceived in your neighborhood or at places you are about to visit.
Sensafety deals with daily safety questions such as:
◾ Do people feel safe at the place we meet?
◾ Do my neighbors share my feeling of safety?
◾ Do others perceive a street or park to be dangerous?
Sensafety provides answers to these questions by asking you for your personal assessment of the safety situation at your whereabouts and by providing you insights on how the safety situation at your whereabouts is commonly perceived by others.
With Sensafety, you can explore the commonly perceived safety situation at locations around the globe via a map, by an augmented reality view, or by using a virtual safety compass. You can always access all your personal ratings in the history section. Sensafety is even capable to notify you as soon as you approach or enter a region that is perceived to be unsafe according to your personal sensitivity level (experimental feature).
The idea of the Sensafety App was born while visiting unfamiliar places all over the world, without knowing the safety situation on site. This gave start to the Sensafety research project at the Technische Universität Berlin, which tries to record the general subjective perception of safety at different locations and to compare it in the long term with statistical crime and accident data and other safety-relevant indicators.
