Sonoforms is an educational music application which introduces the audience into the sound world typical of the 1960s sonorism (or ‘music of textures’). Our beginner sonorist’s set consists of three elements: 1) clusters, that is, complex blocks made up of sounds placed vertically on top of one another at very close distances; 2) circular clouds of short and tiny sounds, which an orchestra would perform as a string pizzicato (i.e. plucking the strings); 3) bands or streaks of glissandi, that is, string sounds ‘gliding’ smoothly up and down. The range and duration of each element may be changed freely; the clusters, pizzicati and glissandi may be multiplied, juxtaposed in various configurations and made to overlap.
