Perfected and proven in the classroom environment, Early Is Best (EIB) ALPHABETLAND is a children’s educational app that offers a unique, multi-sensory, fun way to learn the letter NAMES and SOUNDS of the alphabet .
Developed by an educational specialist, this app provides an interactive easy to use experience for pre-school children of various ages.
The Farm Animal Scene
Join the Cavalier dog teacher as she visits the animals on the farm teaching the NAME and SOUND of each animal .
This module is aimed at enhancing vocabulary and teaching the concept of NAME and SOUND to be followed through in Alphabetland.
The Aeroplane Scene
Travel with the Cavalier teacher Dog and her pupil in a Cavalier aeroplane to Alphabetland.
The ABC Song
The plane then arrives in ALPHABETLAND and all the letters tumble out singing the ABC song. Here you are reminded that just like the animals who live on a farm, who have NAMES and make SOUNDS when they speak, so too do the letters of ALPHABETLAND.
Alphabetland
The learner has now arrived in Alphabetland!
The Cavalier dog teacher teaches the child to recognise the letters of the alphabet and learn the difference between NAMES and SOUNDS of letters , for example, the name B (pronounced “bee” when it is a capital or uppercase letter); and the sound it makes b (“buh” when it is a small or lowercase letter).
Alphabetland is comprised of 6 levels that contain a carefully selected combination of letters on each stage. Level 1-4 contains 4 letters in each stage, and Level 5 contain 5 letters in each stage. This allows children of different ages and concentration levels to work at their own pace.
The multi-sensory approach allows children to SEE the letters, HEAR their NAMES and SOUNDS, REMEMBER the picture clue and BENEFIT from the teach-test-reteach, interactional, stimulating and motivating play.
On each level the Cavalier Dog Teacher tells the pupil to press on each letter and hear the sound it makes when it talks -
–“My name is B (bee) and I say b (buh) for bat and ball (picture clue)” (TEACH)
Next, the learner is prompted to find the letter with picture clue – “find b (buh) for bat and ball “(TEST).
The Cavalier Dog Teacher rewards the pupil by clapping, cheering and repeating “Well done, I am b (buh) for bat and ball (positive reinforcement and constant repetition); or “Try again please” if they select the incorrect letter (RETEACH).
Next, learner is prompted to find the letter without the picture clue – b (buh) without the picture of the bat and ball.
Once the child completes each section of each level ,the screen flashes with the word “Congratulations” ,balloons , cheering ,as well as a gold, silver or a bronze rosette flash across the screen – positive reinforcement once again !
When all gold rosettes are achieved for each section ,of each level the child is ready to move on to the next level.
The Safari Animal scene
Another module of wild animals, revising the concept of names and sounds as found in Alphabetland.
Parents and caregivers often unintentionally confuse their children by teaching them the alphabet incorrectly. The Alphabetland app will benefit parents/caregivers by providing a framework through-which they can support their children’s learning of the alphabet.
The order of the letters of the ALPHABETLAND programme have been carefully chosen to coincide with the EARLY IS BEST (EIB) writing and phonic programmes.
