We are Susannah Langley, a visual artist working in virtual reality, and Ioannis Sidiropoulos, a movement artist. Together, we have been exploring ways of combining our practices through live performance based events.
Recently, we have been unable to stage live performances, or public virtual reality events with shared headsets. So, we have decided to experiment with a technology that can potentially bypass some of these restrictions – mobile phones.
And because our practices involve either us moving through space, or our audiences moving through space, we have created a work that invites you to experience it by moving through a space of your own. (Or by simply sitting in one place, or if you would prefer to do it that way.)
In addition to drawings and video recordings of performances, this work will also feature field recordings of Melbourne, sounds from beneath Port Phillip Bay, and songs by Hearts and Rocket and The Orbweavers, so please wear headphones as you venture through it.
The app was made possible thanks to the generous support of a City of Melbourne Arts Grants.
This work was created on the lands of Wurrundjeri and Boonwurrung people of the Kulin nation. The artists thus wish to pay respect to the elders of those peoples; past, present and emerging. Sovereignty was never ceded. These lands always were and always will be Aboriginal lands.
