Staying in touch with friends & family shouldn't be harder than that. Just record your story and save it for later or share immediatly. (sometimes you just have to brag about it RIGHT. NOW.)

Text doesn't do most stories justice. You (usually) need your eyes to understand pictures and videos. Phone calls can be a hassle to schedule. (or you forget half the things you wanted to say). The big social networks do not focus on audio at all (tagging / searching / etc.).
