One of the top ten reasons low income students are chronically absent, is because they lack the basic essentials required to attend school. The more school days missed, the more they fall behind academically and risk dropping out. Clothing is the most visible sign of poverty and children are the most sensitive about the way they look. Without proper hygiene, children feel isolated and are often ostracized by their peers, contributing to low self-esteem, the onset of mental health concerns, and experiencing poor social development.
