LocalShare’s mission is to harvest surplus food from farms to support an equitable, just, and sustainable local food system. Working with local farmers, engaged volunteers and hunger relief partners, we provide the freshest food possible to those in need, reducing food waste and food insecurity. LocalShare is an active partner in developing a resilient local food system that supports agriculture, regional collaboration, food security and health equity.
Our work is not possible without volunteers! The community of engaged volunteers harvests fresh produce, makes deliveries to hunger relief organizations and helps host free produce pop-up markets throughout northwest NJ in pockets of poverty. We are building a stronger community one farm gleaning at a time!
With the help of our volunteers and partners, we have been able to harvest over 525,000 pounds of produce for our community and serve over 100 hunger relief organizations in the region.
LocalShare is a program of the Foodshed Alliance, a nonprofit organization that works to strengthen sustainable farming, increase access to local, healthy food, and protect the environment for all members of our communities.
