Color Decision app is a new tool for cinematographers, colorists, DIT's and post-production professionals. Using ASC - CDL, defined by the American Society of Cinematographers, Color Decision app allows users to share and communicate their creative choices. ASC - CDL is a format for the exchange of basic primary color grading information between equipment and software from different manufacturers. It is the industry-standard exchange format used for film and television.
The ASC CDL allows (Slope / Offset / Power) color corrections made with one compliant device at one location to be applied or modified by other compliant devices elsewhere. For example, a cinematographer can create various looks remotely from the set and share the ASC CDL color correction (plus transforms if applicable) to a colorist in a post-production facility to use as a starting point for final color correction. Color Decision even allows users to overlay helpful tools to assist in fine-tuning your color such as split screens to preview before/after and various resizable scopes.
The ASC has defined an XML schema for exchanging ASC CDL data, along with other metadata to identify what shot(s) color corrections were applied to, the type of input signal used as well as the viewing device and environment. Color Decision app is fully compliant with the ASC CDL spec and can generate a proper CDL file(s) that professional grading systems can import and apply so that the filmmakers' creative intent is always respected.
The files exported from Color Decision are supported in multiple edit and grading platforms, including Da Vinci Resolve, Base light, Avid Media Composer, and Premiere Pro.
Color Decision is free to use for one project with up to 5 stills & videos imported from your device’s library.
Level up Color Decision, by purchasing the “PRO” upgrade in-app. This upgrade removes the limit of how many stills and videos you can import and allows for more than one project to be created so you can manage all of your projects separately.
The Premium camera features in the “PRO” upgrade allow you full manual control over exposure, frame rates, and quality settings. We have also included some helpful tools to assist in shot composition.
The camera supports input transforms to allow for even greater creative freedom and flexibility. We have consulted some of the industry’s most trusted names in Color Science to aid in our development. The results are various transforms tailored to closely resemble some of the top cinema cameras in the industry today along with some basic natural curves.
