Start2park app is used to collect research data on parking search (cruising for parking) traffic at many different locations and times of day and to identify factors influencing parking search duration. This data is evaluated in aggregated form as part of the start2park research project. The research project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure with a financial assistance programme called mFUND.
On the one hand, a statistical explanatory model will be used to identify traffic planning options. On the other hand, the collected exact parking search durations and parking search paths are used to train a prediction model. This will enable the research team to make predictions about parking search durations for individual journeys. These can then be added to the expected journey duration in navigation devices and navigation apps. With this information, perhaps alternative, more climate-friendly means of transport will be perceived as more attractive.
