The Hak Hout is a cultural landscape. In English you don't call coppice a forest, but 'woodland'. In the Netherlands we (too) often classify old cultural landscapes as nature or forest, such as coppice. We think that if you let nature take its course, the landscape will be at its best. Paradoxically, it is precisely the harvesting of wood that has ensured that the beautiful and protected nature has arisen here and that there are large numbers of birds.
