The Port of Oakland, located in California within the San Francisco Bay metropolitan area, it was the first major port on the United States Pacific Coast to construct terminals specifically for container ships. The Port of Oakland has developed into the premiere port for refrigerated cargo exports, maintaining a market share lead over the years. The port has heavily invested in its infrastructure, resulting in the culmination of over a decade of planning and construction, which was marked in 2002 with the establishing of an intermodal container handling system, resulting in a high-volume cargo facility.
