AKM Ashraf is an Indian politician and the current Member of Legislative Assembly from
Manjeshwar constituency in Kerala. Ashraf started his political life as a member of Muslim
Students’ Federation (MSF), the students’ wing of IUML, at the age of 10. While in college, he
was elected as the Students’ Council Chairman at Govinda Pai Memorial Government College,
Manjeshwar. He was the President of Manjeshwar Panchayath unit of MSF at the age of 18 and
subsequently he was selected as the President of Manjeshwar Constituency committee and later
Kasaragod District unit of MSF. He was also the Working Committee Member of Kerala state unit
of MSF.
Ashraf presided the Manjeshwar Constituency committee of Muslim Youth League (MYL), the
youth wing of IUML, and later he was selected as Kasaragod District General Secretary of MYL
and he is currently the State Secretary of Muslim Youth League. He was elected to the Kasaragod
District Panchayath from Manjeshwar division in 2010 and he was elected as the President of
Manjeshwar Block Panchayath during 2015 to 2020.
Ashraf is very active in multiple spheres of life including sports, culture, charity etc. He was the
Founder President of Kasaragod district Kabbadi association, and he was also the Chairman of
Under-Arm Cricket Association in Kasaragod District, and he is the youngest director of Kerala
Bamboo Corporation till date. Ashraf worked alongside the government authorities to lift the
confidence of the citizens and to provide provision to the people in the border district of Kasaragod
during Covid 19’s rampant spread as the President of Manjeshwar Block Panchayath. He was
instrumental in lifting the standards of Manjeshwar Taluk Hospital situated in Mangalpady. The
Manjeshwar Block Panchayath governing body under his leadership set up one of its kind Dialysis
unit and built vital health facilities in the region.
Ashraf is a graduate in Kannada literature from Kannur University. He is proficient in different
languages such as Malayalam, Kannada, Tulu, English, Beary, Urdu etc. Ashraf is the son of KM
Aboobacker and Hawwamma and is married to Mariyam Fairooza with sons Shamil, Shazil,
Shahil, Shabil and Shakil.
