REEFI is a game that is attractive to rural children and youth and enables them to recognize and avoid physical hazards in different farm/agricultural settings, divided into three levels:
1) Field
2) Orchard
3) Greenhouse
The REEFI game is based on three consecutive themes, each theme comprising several levels, and each level consisting of a separate game activity. The three themes are:
Field, Orchard and Greenhouse. These themes were identified as agricultural environments in which most of the significant hazards of child work in agriculture occur in the Lebanese context. The game consists of the player helping a rural child character, aged 14 and above, in the process of gathering seeds as rewards for completing safely agriculture-related activities. The seeds are therefore symbolic of rewards for successfully and correctly meeting the challenges of the game at each level. Different games are rewarded with different numbers of seeds. The seeds are used as ‘exchange currency’ to buy other items such as trees, with which to develop the ultimate reward which is their own customized Personal Garden.
Throughout the levels, the game character will face a wide range of sector-related risks, including weather (sun, cold, rain), pollution, animal bites/stings, chemicals (greenhouses, pesticides), loads, sharp tools and to introduce some protectives measures. In order to win the levels, the player must choose the correct prevention and protective measures to avoid physical, chemical and psychological hazards in agriculture.
