Medieval Battle Commander is a turn based strategy game with weapons and armor from the late middle ages of Western Europe. The game was designed as an easy to learn strategy game that still allows players to come up with unique battle strategies. Players will execute their strategies by flanking the enemy, laying siege to castles and defending objectives.
The game includes 24 custom built maps with 4 of them come for free. Each map contains its own unique geographical features such as water, plains, forests, rivers and mountains. There are also villages, farms and castles that provide defensive bonuses to the troops occupying those buildings. Each map forces players to come up with a different battle strategy.
The base game includes 4 maps and 12 missions. Players can advance through the custom built campaign on three difficulties. Additionally, the missions can be replayed anytime on any difficulty. Medals are used to track the players progress and their stats are collected to show their kill to death ratio, favorite weapon and number of missions complete. Medieval Battle Commander has 5 mission packs available for purchase. Each mission pack contains its own custom built troops with weapons like the longbow, axe halberd and mounted archer. Each mission pack contains 4 new maps and 12 to 13 missions.
Missions are played on 24 custom built maps and each map will require the player to come up with new battle tactics. Players will march their army across grasslands, advance through the mountains and build bridges to reach their objectives. A successful attack will on be complete when a player executes flanking maneuvers, surrounds the enemy and lay siege to enemy castles. Meanwhile, the defenders will counter attack, and call in the cavalry in an attempt to defend their castles. No battle plan is complete without considering the best way to use the troops of their army. Each troop will have its own weapon (ex. sword, ax, halberd) which deals a unique amount of damage depending on the opponents troops armor. Cavalry and mounted archers have a greater movement, while archers and mounted archers are able to shoot their bows at their enemy from a distance.
Two exciting components of the game are the battle scenes and archer shooting scenes. These are critical events during a mission that will determine who is victorious. During a battle scene, each team will put their weapons and armor to the test. It is important for the Commander to decide when to use each weapon and armor against what the enemy chooses to defend with. In some cases, you may need to sacrifice troops to allow your elite troops to fight another day. Each battle involves considerable strategy to come out victorious.
Medieval Battle Commander uses a variety of historically accurate weapons, armor and troops including sword, halberd, longbow, crossbow and cavalry. These game elements add to the authenticity of the medieval setting and each element has its own unique features that are used by a troop. The weapons inflict varying levels of damage to the enemy troop depending on the armor the enemy troop is wearing. More powerful weapons will inflict more damage to a troop, but if the enemy has the correct armor to protect against that particular weapon, the damage will be significantly less. Shields and helmets can be added to the troops to increase the total amount of damage they can take. Cavalry and mounted archers are available in two of the missions packs and they create a new level of strategy due to their increased movement and speed. The choices of troops, weapons, armor and mounted troops provide the Battle Commander with many options when entering battle.
Medieval Battle Commander is a strategy game designed for all ages and skill levels. The variety of missions and difficulties will ensure a fun experience for any strategy game player. The successful Commander will learn how to use the troops, weapons and armor to defeat the enemy.
