Astanga Yoga School is based in Helsinki, Finland. We are one of the oldest yoga schools in Europe operating since 1997. We have a warm and encouraging atmosphere, and we practice yoga firmly grounded with our motto “yoga belongs to everyone”. At the heart of our operations is the pursuit of maintaining health, overall well-being and mental balance, as well as feeling and developing oneself through yoga. Our teachers have long time experience on practicing and teaching yoga methods.

Our main field is Astanga Yoga in the tradition of T. Krishnamacharya and K. Pattabhi Jois of Mysore, India. Astanga is known of its asana sequences, which are very challencing in advanced levels. However, poses and sequences for beginners are a lot of fun, and we offer introduction courses to learn the basics of Astanga yoga. Yoga is a great method as it supports developing ones skills through steady and longterm practice. To establish this kind of yoga practice we conduct weekly led beginners classes and Mysore style practices, where one does kind of self practice in a group while teacher is helping and assisting each practitioner individually.

If you have already some experience on Astanga Mysore practice, you could attend the Special Workshops or Summer Retreats taught by our co-founders Petri Räisänen and Juha Javanainen. Their speciality is therapeutic approach on Astanga which includes understanding personal differences physically, emotionally and mentally. Thus we could adjust one's practice according to specific individual needs if you suffer from pains and injuries. For us yoga is a healing practice to create safe space to explore the hidden potentials of oneself.
