The idea is based on the notion that if we are to merely make the time to think holy, positive thoughts, consistently bring to mind our true divine nature as human beings, inseparable of the one and only source of life, G-d almighty; we will surely witness an improvement in our livelihood, our family life, community and see divine interventions in our reality.
The relationship between a positive outlook on life and a healthy body, has been proven over and over in various fields of science. Today it is widely accepted that good thoughts serve as a healing remedy for almost any physical infliction.
Our sages teach about the influence of involving G-d in our thoughts and decisions in much length and depth. Not only does a positive thinker enjoy a healthier physique, but his entire surroundings nourish from it as well, as it says in Proverbs 27:19, “As in water face answereth to face, so the heart of man to man”, meaning, a person who thinks positively towards his fellow man, even if kept concealed, his inner contemplation manifests in the form of positive behavior expressed back towards him, and an overall better life experience.
This natural law plays out for the good and for the opposite.
Furthermore, according to the Holy Torah, other than what our inner state of being reflects on our relationships with people, it also resonates throughout our entire habitat and all living creatures around us, as it says in Parashat Bo (Exodus 11:5) “...all the first-born in the land of Egypt… and all the first-born of cattle (shall be plagued)”. Rashi, one of the most comprehensive commentators on the entire Torah answers the question, “why did the cattle have to suffer the same plague as man?”, and answers that the Egyption’s spiritual state was so corrupt, it corrupted the beasts as well.
Since man’s first sin - eating from the tree of knowledge, good and evil have become mixed together and will remain so until the coming of Moshiach. According to the Holy Torah, our life’s mission from the point we gain ‘Daat’ (a higher consciousness) at the age of 13 (for boys. 12 for girls), is acquiring the understanding of our responsibility to choose right over wrong, good over evil, a task that can only be achieved by connecting with G-d, and involving him in our lives continuously.
