INFO FOR PARENTS AND TEACHERS
Fluent Math is suitable for students with basic understanding and strategies in place but who are not yet automatic, or for students in upper grades who don't know their facts well enough.
The app allows the student to go from their own strategies to automaticity in a unique way without time pressure. It combines two of the most efficient study techniques, active recall, and spaced repetition, with feedback and individual adaptation.

VARIANTS
The app offers free multiplication with numbers up to 7. Upgrade to premium for access to multiplication with numbers up to 12. For a paid version (eg for VPP), search for "fluentmath". The app is also available as a free web app (without audio).
HOW IT WORKS
The entire table is reviewed in small rolling sets. Each student will progress at the right pace for them.
Known facts are quickly verified. For facts not automated yet, students will have time to think and use their own strategies without time pressure. Each fact is then practiced a couple of times in succession until it can either be pulled from memory or answered efficiently. Spaced repetition with active retrieval helps in committing them to long-term memory.
Learn, repeat, recall => automaticity.
LONG-TERM REPETITION
Since unused knowledge weakens, it is a good idea to review the tables annually. Consistent, long-term use of the app helps students of all ages with automaticity of the multiplication tables.
RESEARCH
The solution has been inspired by research about active recall, spaced repetition, and interleaving.

Amazing! But, Missing one critical function.
I am 37 years old and have struggled with times tables my whole life. Probably some trauma tied to my dad yelling at me while doing flash cards and feeling terribly embarrassed in social situations. I used this for a month while working with my kids and I’m very confident with multiplication now! I was very disappointed with one missing feature, BUT the results of this app do t lie and it has given me a skill that has haunted me for years. I am very grateful! I times other apps and ended up getting the paid version of this one, here are some details that sets this app apart and what needs improved: Pros: - Emphasizes the problems you struggle with to really help you ingrain them. -don’t have to hit a “submit” button, it accepts the answer as soon as you type it which helps with speed but can occasionally be annoying if you miskey. Cons: -The flaw that I is an absolute shame for an app I spent money on: This app (why I paid for it) has a feature doesn’t allows you to select a specific set of times tables. BUT, It uses a weird matrix selection system that limits the options for what tables I want to practice. For example: I only want to practice my 6,7,8,9 and 12 times tables. There is no way to do it. It requires me to include the 10 and 11 times tables which are easy and I don’t want in there and then it automatically eliminates other ranges that I want kept in, like 9x3,4 or5. Just make a simple selection tool where I can tell it what ranges I want to practice. Correct this and it’s a 5 star app that is totally worth the money. . . As is, it’s still worth the money, just shy of 5 stars though. ;)
