On the screen, 99 bottles are displayed. As the song reaches the phrase "take one down", you tap a bottle (or, in autoplay mode, a bottle is randomly chosen) and it is taken down and removed from the screen. The count of remaining bottles is also shown. So you can be bored watching the screen as well as listening to the song.
If 99 bottles is just too many — perhaps you're in a hurry? — you can start with fewer bottles in various amounts down to 1.

great! but...
i love the app and have had it since 2016 when i was still using an android. it's perfect! except...well i might be clueless but is there a way to play it in the background while my phone is locked? i would ask the developer himself but couldn't really find a way to get in contact with him, so i'll just have to ask here. again, this app: wonderful, terrific, amazing, an absolute necessity

This app is everything you could ever need ever. I can’t believe more people don’t have this app. I love this app. This app is my favorite thing.
