It’s alright I guess
For the price of Grimlock, I expected the app to be about the same or better than my Flagship Optimus Prime. Overall, it gives me the same functionality ie, I can control him, download a couple actions and have him perform party tricks. Where the app fails me though, is there is currently no computer programming support like the Flagship Optimus Prime app. The Robosen 3D programming for PC has no Grimlock support and the Grimlock AppStore app has no “USB Mode” like in the Flagship Optimus Prime app. Then there’s the lack of “missions” like the Optimus Prime app; Where missions felt like a tutorial/game you can play and compete in to see if you could complete the predetermined block based programming with the fastest time globally. There’s also the issue with naming any actions you do create. Robosen, please allow spaces and apostrophes when naming a move; I did not enjoy merging two words together as it feels very weird to read “KingsKick” as opposed to “King’s Kick”. A minor inconvenience but it takes away from the “premium experience” of owning and programming one of your robots. As it currently stands, I can see me leaving Grimlock on my shelf a lot sooner than my Optimus because of this. Also, as a side project/idea, if you want to really elevate the experience please allow us to connect both Grimlock AND Optimus at the same time so we can create custom mini theater actions. THAT would be awesome and would be a huge selling point to owning more of your products. We already know we can connect both on this app for mini theater so please take it a step further and let us make custom interactions! For now though, I think I would recommend people just buy Optimus instead of Grimlock due to a lack of features for Grimlock and the affordability/ more support factor of Optimus.
