About Highlightly

Highlightly takes a new approach to supporting reading instead of rewording a text or providing a brief summary, we highlight key sentences in context so you can cut down on the waffle and read only what is important. We even have a condensed mode that lets you see just the highlighted sentences which is perfect for use with the iOS screen reader and retaining the authors’ real sentences.

Hi I’m Edward, and I created Highlightly initially out of necessity for myself. Being dyslexic, I struggled with all the readings I had to complete at university and while screen readers helped they couldn’t be the complete solution, as lecturers would expect you to be skim reading texts to find and retain only the key information. Using a screen reader, this meant listening to hundreds of pages at times to get to the point. To solve this I built Highlightly, where I can copy and paste text from my digital books, find the key information, cutting out the waffle, and listen to just that.

To help students further Highlightly has several built-in highlighting modes so you can quickly find sentences mentioning specific names or dates for example.

This isn’t just useful for neurodiverse students but also for busy professionals who want to save time.

I hope you find Highlightly as useful as I do. I am constantly trying to improve the app so if you have any ideas, thoughts or feedback please get in touch and let me know!
