Feature Suggestions: Improving Schedule Sorting & Calendar Integration
Hi FamilyWorks LLC Team, Thank you for all the work you’ve put into the YMCA of Fort Worth app. I really appreciate having the class schedule and being able to add classes to “My Schedule”—it’s made planning so much easier. I wanted to share two feature suggestions that I believe would improve the schedule experience and make the app even more user-friendly: ⸻ 1. Auto-sorting “My Schedule” by Upcoming Events • What I’ve noticed: When I add multiple classes to my schedule, the listing on the homepage’s schedule section shows them in the order I added them, even if some events are far ahead and others are sooner. • What could improve: Automatically sort the list by date, so that the next upcoming class is always at the top. That way, users see what is next rather than having to scroll through past items or far-ahead items first. • Why it matters: It saves time, reduces potential confusion, and makes the schedule more helpful at a glance (especially for busy users keeping track of multiple commitments). ⸻ 2. Exporting Events from “My Schedule” to External Calendars (e.g. Apple iCal) • What I’d love to see: The ability to tap an event in the schedule and choose “Export to Calendar” (e.g. iCal, Google Calendar, Outlook, etc.). • Benefits: • Syncing with personal calendars reduces double-booking risk. • Users could receive native device reminders/notifications. • It ties the YMCA schedule more seamlessly into users’ everyday systems. ⸻ Possible Implementation Aids / Resources To help accelerate these, here are some resources or services you might consider: • Calendar export / ICS file generation: Libraries in many popular platforms (iOS / Android / web) allow you to create .ics files. For example: • iCalKit (for iOS/macOS) — though not exactly this, but there are Swift/Obj-C libraries for calendar handling. • ical-generator (JavaScript / Node.js) — to generate ICS format events. • android-ical libraries or using Android’s built-in Calendar Provider to insert events. • Sorting logic: Most programming environments have easy sorting functions. For example: • In Swift: sort by Date property using .sorted { $0.date < $1.date }. • In Java/Kotlin: similar sorting with Comparator or sortBy. • Services / SDKs: If you’re looking for a ready-made solution rather than building from scratch: • Some calendar APIs (Google Calendar API, Apple EventKit) help with integration. • There are cross-platform calendar-integration SDKs. • If you use a backend (web services), they could generate ICS/URLs that the app sends to the user. ⸻ Thanks again for the app and your consideration. These tweaks would make “My Schedule” much more intuitive and useful. I hope you’ll think about them for a future update! Best regards, [Your Name] ⸻ If you want, I can polish it further (shorten, make more casual or more formal) depending on who you plan to send it to. Want me to do that?
