GSRIyaz is an app built by GSRI (Gurmat Sangeet Research Internship) 2023 Intern Ishmeet Singh from Texas. This initial release includes 7 tools: Translator, Notes2Raag, Raag Quest, Ear Training, Sur Abhyas, Alankars, and Layakari. Check out https://youtu.be/wL_eHcKgj-Y?si=BVc-DokOvwdQulO1 video on how to best use this app.
Translator tool allows selecting one of the 31 raags from Sri Guru Granth Sahib and the scale (such as C#, D#, A#, and so on) and it shows Aaroh and Avroh of that raag in the selected scale. This is useful for instrument tuning or for quick reference of notes in the raag.
Notes2Raag tool shows the raags that make use of provided three or more notes.
Sur Abhyas tool allows generating random sequences of notes/phrases provided.
Alankars tool can be used to build and practice alankars based on the notes selected.
Layakaari tool allows practicing the concepts taal jaatis and chhands. For a given phrase, this tool can generate random sequences of notes in selected jaati (for example, 3-3-2 or 4-4 for a given phrase of 8 notes).
Ear Training: An important aspect of music education - listen and recognize sur or taal!
Raag Quest: Listen to an audio clip and try to figure out the raag used - learning by listening!
More questions are added to Raag Quest tool in releases 1.0.5 and 1.0.6.
