Great organization
If you want to stop bike theft this is the way to do something about it. Donate, and get involved. Look for stolen bikes around you and report them. On the last note, I would like to see an option to get notified with photos of when a bike within x range of you is stolen. I think it could really improve the community aspect. As of now you have to navigate to stolen bikes and filter for a reasonable range around you (why is default 100 miles?). Even then the navigation isn’t great. I think for something like this it would be great to just open source the app and let people run away with it. Lord knows there’s plenty of tech workers in large cities who’ve gotten their bike stolen. Maybe they’d contribute.

Stolen bike found and returned!
Bike Index is the reason I was able to report my bike that was stolen while locked up on a bike rack. After it was stolen, I decided to add my bicycles information onto the Bike Index site and campus police from a nearby college recovered the bike and was able to look up my information and a picture using the serial number on the bicycle.
