About NYCNoise Monitor
The app does not record any audio or voices—rather, it analyzes the noise levels (dBA) based on the frequency (Hz) of the surrounding environment. It uses your phone's built-in sensors to measure the intensity of ambient noise and sends this data to the DEP for analysis. The noise data is captured in real-time and is anonymized, ensuring that no personal information is ever exposed or shared.
Whether you're at home, at work, or on the go, you can easily participate in helping monitor and improve New York City's sound environment. The NYC Noise App allows you to contribute to the city's efforts to reduce noise pollution, protect public health, and promote a quieter, more peaceful urban experience.
Key Features:
- Measures environmental noise levels (dBA) without recording any audio
- Analyzes noise based on frequency (Hz) input
- Ensures full anonymity of users—no personal data is collected
- Supports the NYC Department of Environmental Protection's noise monitoring efforts
- Easy to use interface for quick noise level readings

Useless
This app turns on when I tap it only once out of 20 times. And when it does work, it takes so long to activate that the sirens or noisy car has already passed.

Why Do You Have To select type?
I don’t understand why user has to select type of noise. How long does it record? Not actually sure where data goes & if there’s any point.
