About Explore Intrepid: Engineering
Do you have what it takes to run an aircraft carrier’s propulsion plant? Find out in Explore Intrepid: Engineering, an immersive and highly detailed recreation of USS Intrepid’s navigation bridge, forward engine room and number 2 fire room. Learn how to steer the ship, run the engines, fuel the boilers and more.
- In Story mode, the ship’s crew will guide you through the process of increasing speed as Intrepid races to recover the Gemini 3 space capsule in 1965.
- In Explore mode, navigate the engineering spaces at your own pace. Earn new Navy ranks by completing interactive job trainings and opening popups with historic images, firsthand accounts from former crew members, and more.
The aircraft carrier USS Intrepid served the United States Navy from 1943 to 1974. Massive boilers supplied steam to turbine engines that took Intrepid from the Arctic Circle to the South Pacific. The hard-working crew in the Engineering Department controlled and directed the high-pressure superheated steam. They also maintained the ship’s engines, boilers and miles of pipes and valves.
Accessibility:
- Screen-reader friendly with accessible navigation controls.
- Audio descriptions of the modeled environment.
- Captioning for all dialogue, sound effects, and ambient sound.
- Adjust brightness, contrast, volume levels and more in the settings menu
