VisitCoding is free education tool for Evaluation and Management CPT® code calculation by medical professionals. The calculator uses a patent pending approach that prompts the user for the the components Medicare requires to justify the levels of care. This app dynamically calculates the E&M code as you enter in the components of the visit, allowing you to be efficient with what you enter in the note, while maximizing the code level for what is appropriate to the visit.
• Updated to use the 2021 Outpatient non-consult MDM revisions
• For other visits, choose between the 1995 and 1997 CMS guidelines (both are acceptable to Medicare and insurers)
• Native support for the iPhone, iPad and now the new Macs
• Creates a list of visits for each day with the CPT® codes and RVU values displayed
• Supports virtually all visit types, including inpatient and outpatient, new and return visits and nursing home visits
• Learn to enter exactly what you need to get paid for the visit
• Watch the effect each component has on the final code level
• Demonstrates the importance of some of the less appreciated components of the visit such as the differential diagnosis, the review of history from a family member, or the clinician’s own brief review of a study
• Useful for instruction as well as for everyday use
• Support for emailing visit information and CPT® codes
• Stores the visits for future reference
• Integrates important tips and CMS E&M Guidelines can be viewed within the app for reference
Most clinicians undercode. This can arise from confusion with the complexity and vague language of the CMS E&M Guidelines. It also can be the result of coding by time, which will virtually always undervalue the visit. By experimenting with entering the components of the visit into the app, the clinician can learn the most efficient way to document a visit and then spend the rest of the time giving the patient what they need. The clinician can then also tailor the remainder of the documentation more informally so it is optimized to be useful for clinical care.
The app is based on the 1995, 1997 and 2021 CMS Documentation Guidelines for Evaluation and Management Services, annually updated Current Procedural Technology® RVU tables.
While every effort has been made to ensure that calculations are accurate and in accordance with the guidelines and code books, use of this application is entirely at your own risk. This application should only be used by trained medical professionals and all results should be double checked by coding professionals. Use of the app requires acceptance of the terms of use that are included with the application.
