The OpenGTS™ Tracker is the app for OpenGTS™ Service.
The main purpose of the app is continuously monitoring your device location and sending it to OpenGTS™ server, when it available, or caching to send its later.
The app can run in background mode, when you open another app or when device is suspended.
You can create any number of profiles to work with different servers and switch between them (available in full version only).
The app has 3 main modes:
1. Continuous monitoring of the location using the GPS system. Position is sent after changing the location to a given distance. This is the most accurate method, but consumes more energy and faster drain the battery.
2. Timer mode when location determined on a timer with the given intervals. It is the less accurate method: GPS turned on for 5 seconds when the timer has elapsed.
3. Cellular mode when location determine by cell towers. This is a least accurate method but the most economical in terms of consumption of the battery.
The App provides additional mode to save battery power: when the device is connected to a WiFi network device believes that its location is not changed until the WiFi network will disconnected (available in full version only).
To save money on cellular traffic the app has a mode of sending the cached data only via WiFi network - if the WiFi network is not available, the data is not sent and stored in the internal database until WiFi become available (available in full version only).
The next version of the application will include a sleep mode when the device has no moving within the set time. This mode significantly reduces battery consumption. Stay tuned!
To inform about the service state when app is closed, when service staring on the program icon appears badge with a number of the operation mode. When you stop a service badge is removed. This feature can be disabled in the system settings of the program (available in full version only).
More information about OpenGTS™ project is available on the projects Web site http://www.opengts.org.
Warning! Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.
