The history of bread, it’s the history of man, it’s a story worth telling…
In the town of Echallens, located in the heart of the grain belt of the Gros de Vaud, the House of Wheat and Bread consists of 4 floors of exhibitions featuring the fabulous adventure of grain to bread. This 18th century farmhouse contains a rich collection of objects from the past that honors the ancestral farmer, miller and baker: from wild grasses to cultivated cereals, from the cereal pancake to sourdough bread, from old-fashioned harvesting to the high-tech combine harvester, from the ancient stone mill to modern milling facilities, to the wooden kneading trough to automated kneading. Audio-visual entertainment (for adults and children) introduces the visit and “The Path of the Little Seed” allows young visitors to go through the 20 stages in a fun and didactic way. The tour ends with the tasting of baked goods made right before your eyes in the bakery-café, the “Bakehouse of Cérès”.
