About Aeneas

Aeneas provides an introduction to Virgil's Aeneid for students of Latin and Classical Civilisation, coming in four main sections:

i) the story of the hero's travels from Troy to Italy, told in English with animations and cartoons
ii) information on Virgil and the Aeneid
iii) a Latin version of the story, told in language which has been directly adapted from Virgil's original
iv) a set of information about the names of characters and places connected to the story and its transmission

The Latin stories consist of about 500 words, broken into 15 screens. These are aimed at year 10 students or above. Each passage can be heard read aloud, as sound files are attached. A full range of information is given about each word under the headings vocabulary, syntax and grammar. Translations are also available.

Aeneas allows teachers to specify how much help should be accessible to students. For example, vocabulary help can be limited to 10 words, or translation help can be allowed from zero times to 100. This sophisticated system gives the teacher a great deal of control over the process, ensuring that students concentrate on areas which are of most benefit to them.

The program can be set to store the information accessed, keeping a log of how much help a student has used. After the work is completed, a record is saved of the full working session. This can be viewed from the Status Card system, which shows how much help students have sought, along with the quiz scores they have achieved.
