BS 9999 Travel Distance Calculator – This app lets you quickly see how the Maximum Travel Distance allowed is affected by the Features of your Building.
This easy to use Tool can Aid you in your Fire Safety Design Calculations and is based on Five Simple Questions.

- Are Sprinklers Installed?
- Are there any Additional Automatic Detection and Warning Systems?
- What is the Ceiling Height?
- Will there be Sale of Alcohol on the Premises?
Output:
- The Maximum Travel Distance to nearest Storey Exit in the Building for Single or Multiple Exits.
This app is intended to Assist Users who have a Degree of Familiarity with Fire Safety Design and the Guidance Documents available for England; ADB and BS 9999.
The Calculator is based on the Risk-Based approach for Determining the Travel Distance for means of Escape in a Building. This method is provided in BS 9999:2008 Code of Practice for Fire Safety in the Design, Management and Use of Buildings © BSI.
A Comparable Guidance Calculation is provided according to the Methods contained within Department for Communities and Local Government Approved Document Part B: Fire Safety: Buildings Other Than Dwellinghouses Volume 2 (2006 edition incorporating 2010 and 2013 Amendments).
This Mobile Application and Contents is for Guidance Purposes Only and is not Evidence of Compliance with Building Regulation requirements, Fire Safety Legislation or any Legal Obligations.
The user should be aware that the Calculation Method used will not be Relevant for every Building or Area of a Building. When Calculating Maximum Travel Distance the user should not consider this in Isolation but in Co-ordination with other Fire Safety Measures for the Building.
