About Labo des Fonctions

The Functions Lab is a companion application for teaching functions in cycle 4. Most of the tools can also be used in second.

It comprises four main parts:

I. ACTIVITIES

Five activities are available:

- Graphic representations (1)
- Albert's machine
- Graphic representations (2)
- Affine functions
- Linear functions

Graphic representations (1):
Goals :

- Visualize the graphic representation of a phenomenon

- Read, use a graphical representation

Albert's machine:
Goals :

- Introduce the notion of function

- Introduce function notations and vocabulary

Graphic representations (2):
Goals :

- Search, extract information

- Read, interpret a graphical representation

Affine functions:
Goals :

- Recognize an affine function

- Plot the graphical representation of an affine function

- Determine the coefficients of an affine function

Linear functions:
Goals :

- Recognize a linear function

- Plot the graphical representation of a linear function

- Determine the leading coefficient of a linear function

- Associating linear function and situation of proportionality

- Associating linear function and percentages

II. TRAINING EXERCISES

Eight exercises are available:

- Vocabulary
- Tables of values and ratings
- Image and background calculations
- Calculation programs
- Reading of images and antecedents
- Tables of values and curves
- Curves, notations and vocabulary
- Represent an affine function

Each exercise is configurable (number of questions, difficulty), and includes a correction in case of error.

III. LESSONS AND TOOLS

Three modules are available:

- Lesson
- Curve plotter
- Table of values

The lesson is that of the college program: Notion of function, affine functions and linear functions.

Curve plotter allows you to plot up to 3 graphic representations in the same reference.

Table of values allows you to obtain... the table of values of any function (10 values with the smallest value and the step to choose), and to visualize the points (and possibly the curve) in an orthogonal reference .

IV. PROBLEMS

Four problems are available:

- Rectangle of maximum area
- Coming soon
- Coming soon
- Coming soon

Rectangle of maximum area allows to study the variations of the area of a rectangle of constant perimeter, and to find the maximum graphically.
