About mAPPot

The mAPPot application is part of a series of initiatives to celebrate the five hundredth anniversary of the establishment of the Jewish Ghetto of Venice. The mAPPot name refers to historical maps that make up the graphical application base and is inspired by the same Hebrew term for the curtains that protect the Sefer Tohra and that in ancient times, was also used with the meaning of the map.
The application allows you to view some thematic routes within the city of Venice and to locate sites that are part of it. It is publi and private buildings, monuments, areas of aggregation, etc. that, since the establishment of the Ghetto, they have characterized the Jewish presence in the city.
The cartography of the city is represented by three large maps historical and artistic value: the view by Jacopo de 'Barbari of 1500, the topographic map of Ludovico Ughi and the floor plan of the brothers Bernard and Gaetano Fight of 1846.
E 'can search for places through a selection list or by clicking directly on the points representing them on the map. Each location is described by an information page that includes, in addition to a short text, a picture and the interactive Google map where you can view the current location.
When used in 'GPS on' mode, the application shows, with a special graphic symbol, the user's location on the current map display.
The application was developed by the Laboratory of Cartography and GIS at the University IUAV of Venice on behalf of CoopCulture, cooperative operating in the goods sector and cultural activities in Italy.
