Published in 1889, it is the seventh poetry collection in verse by Paul Verlaine.
Like previous collections, this work brings together pieces composed much earlier and very different in their inspiration (erotic poetry of Les Amies opposed to the prison universe described in the poems of the remnant of Cellulairement).
