Devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary was extended to the whole Church by Pope Pius XII in 1944, in memory of the consecration of the world to the Immaculate Heart of Mary which he made on October 31, 1942, following the request of Alexandrina Maria da Costa (beatified April 25, 2004), which was added to that made by Sister Lucy of Fátima.
The whole world has been consecrated several times to the Immaculate Heart of Mary by various popes:

• John Paul II, May 13, 1982
• John Paul II together with all the bishops of the world, 25 March 1984
• Francesco, 13 October 2013
"Tota pulchra es, Maria, et macula originalis non est in Te
The Immaculate Conception is the sign of God's fidelity who does not give up in the face of human sin. His fullness of grace also reminds us of the immense possibilities of good, beauty, greatness and joy that are within man's reach when he lets himself be guided by the Will of God, rejecting sin.
In the light of her whom the Lord gives us as "advocate of grace and model of holiness", we learn to always flee from sin. Let us ask the Virgin to give us the joy of living under her maternal gaze in purity and holiness of life. (JOHN PAUL II, ANGELUS, Thursday 8 December 1994)
One day they asked Padre Pio why he insisted so much on making the Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
The Saint replied: “Because it is the only place in the world where Satan has not set foot and will never put it there to take the souls that will have entered it… and a future so diabolical awaits you that the Apocalypse is nothing in comparison, get in there and you will be safe ”.
