The purpose of the Society of Geriatrics and Gerontology of Chile is to promote the advancement of knowledge about the human aging process and groups together professionals who study the problems of old age, following the criteria of the O.M.S. and the International Association of Gerontology, promoting systems of training and continuing education with all disciplines in relation to the sciences of aging. It has functioned regularly throughout this period with monthly meetings, acting both in Santiago and in the regions, and organizes courses and congresses annually and has sponsored scientific events on a regular basis.
This Society has been affiliated since the I.A.G. (International Association of Gerontology) and has had a presence at the World Congress of the Specialty held in Budapest in 1993, in Adelaide in 1997 and in Vancouver in 2001.
