Suluk Linglung is the highest teaching of makrifat and spiritual journey of Sunan Kalijaga and finding the true meaning of life. Sunan Kalijaga's makrifat teachings are based on the Duryat book which was later composed by Imam Anom to become Suluk Linglung.
In Suluk Linglung, it is explained in detail about Sunan Kalijaga's journey in finding true faith, when he was a criminal, then met Sunan Bonang, and finally studied with a true teacher, namely Prophet Khidir.
During the phase of traveling and meeting with his teachers, Sunan Kalijaga experienced several phases of life which in Suluk Linglung were divided into several parts, namely:
The first phase is confusion or daze. This phase occurs when Sunan Kalijaga tries to get clues about what is the true essence of human life. Sunan Kalijaga has made up his mind and tried to hold back all his passions in order to lead to surrender to God. However, Sunan Kalijaga felt that his efforts were not getting what he was looking for, he felt that his efforts were in vain. This journey is written in Suluk Linglung pupuh I verse 3:
