Nationally the forerunner to the Advocate Organization in Indonesia only appeared in 1963 or eighteen years after Indonesia's independence was proclaimed. Starting with the formation of the Indonesian Advocates Association (PAI) on March 14, 1963 in Jakarta, the National Law Seminar was held. Although in practice, the Advocate profession had existed in Indonesia (the Dutch East Indies) more or less since a century earlier, when the RAAD VAN JUSTITIE and LANDRAAD began operation, the judicial institution established by the colonial government (the Netherlands) based on STAATSBLAAD 1847 No. 23 concerning Reglement op de Rechterlijke Organisatic En het Beleid der Justitie in Indonesia or abbreviated as RO.
A year later, at the First Congress of the Indonesian Advocates Conference on 30 August 1964 in Solo, PAI was merged into the Indonesian Advocates Association (Peradin). Although long before the formation of the Peradin, since the 1920s in several regions the Advocate Organization has also been established, both for those who have advocates and procureurs or zaakwaarnemer, such as Balie van Advocaaten.
