The latest endeavor of the JCI Novi Sad association in the field of environmental protection is the "Heroes of Recycling" project, which was supported by the Telenor Foundation in 2019 at the "Imagine Everything" competition.
Nowadays, when we organize our lives, hobbies and free time with the help of smartphones, the mobile application is a modern solution that can animate citizens and bring them closer to the importance of collecting and separating secondary raw materials. Therefore, this project aims to become an efficient environmental solution that will increase the percentage of waste that ends up in the recycling process, by connecting street collectors of secondary raw materials of others and citizens in Novi Sad who perform primary separation of waste in their homes / associations / companies / schools, via the mobile application "Heroes of Recycling".
The idea is that the application, developed by the IT company Byteout Software doo Belgrade, enables user registration and the offer of "packages" of sorted waste in the categories: 1) PET packaging, 2) cardboard / paper and 3) metal / aluminum, then connecting users and collectors and timely handover. What is characteristic and desirable to realize in practice is that as users, through a natural person, in addition to individuals, tenants' assemblies, restaurants, cafes, companies can be registered.
With the growth of the number of users of the application, its active use will directly contribute to the removal of waste from the city and the increased volume of its recycling. The goal is to establish cooperation between direct users by establishing communication, and to make the sources of secondary raw materials physically and legally accessible to collectors. The intention is that the newly established relations contribute to social inclusion, both in the territory of Novi Sad and in other territories where the use of the application will spread and strengthen awareness of the possibilities of individual and joint contribution to the protection of our environment.
