The criminal legislation of the Republic of Uzbekistan is based on the Constitution and generally recognized norms of international law and consists of this Code. The Criminal Code has as its task the protection of the individual, his rights and freedoms, the interests of society and the state, property, the natural environment, peace, the security of mankind, as well as the prevention of crimes, the education of citizens in the spirit of observance of the Constitution and laws of the republic. To accomplish these tasks, the Code determines the grounds and principles of responsibility, which socially dangerous acts are crimes, establishes penalties and other legal measures that can be applied to persons who have committed socially dangerous acts.
