About CyberSafeFamily - Child

Parenting in the digital age can be extremely challenging. Children and teens are increasingly vulnerable to online hazards that put our children and teens at high risk. CyberSafeFamily parental app puts a cost-effective tool in parents’ hands to help children use the internet productively. With the time scheduler feature, parents can control when, how long, and what apps and games their children are allowed to use. For example, if they want to block an app or a game, parents can select a range of times and days to block the apps/games. The app also gives the option for a fixed weekly schedule. This will enable a child to use digital access productively. We are working with reputed providers to filter inappropriate and adult content websites. Before giving access to a website, this feature checks a database with a list of unsuitable website URLs with a 90% accuracy. Monitor text messages, provide the child’s location, and gets alerts by setting parameter (Geo-fencing) around how far they can go, and also observe how safely their teenager is driving a car.

To offer the services, CyberSafeFamily - Child app requests the following permissions: Accessibility API is for monitoring web search and retrieving the history.
Default phone handler - RECEIVE_SMS, READ_CALL_LOG to retrieve call logs and block incoming calls and SMS messages.
READ_SMS, SEND_SMS: For SMS read and send, we need two permissions, one for reading and another for sending SMS.
Location permission must be granted to retrieve location data in the background.

Handling data:
App blocking: when the parent and child are paired with their phones. A list of all the apps on the child’s phone is retrieved into the backend (https://api.cybersafefamily.com) processers for the sole purpose of the parent managing the screen time by blocking and unblocking.

Website blocking: when the parent and child are paired with their phones. This web history data from the child’s phone is retrieved into backend (https://api.cybersafefamily.com) processers for the sole purpose of the parent to block and unblock the website that they feel is inappropriate.

Call & SMS blocking: when the parent and child are paired with their phones. This call history data and SMS messages from the child’s phone are retrieved into backend (https://api.cybersafefamily.com) processers for the sole purpose of the parent to block and unblock the calls & SMS messages that they feel are inappropriate.

Location Data: when the parent and child are paired with their phones. This location data is collected using GPS API from the child’s phone and retrieved into backend (https://api.cybersafefamily.com) processers for the sole purpose of the parent. This helps parents know where their child/children are and set boundaries on where they can and cannot go. Suppose their teen is driving, for driving safety feature. In that case, the data is collected at what speed the child is driving, and the cybersafefamily app makes the data available for parents to have a meaningful discussion with their teens regarding safe driving.

Data transmission and security: All the data in transit is protected by SSL transmission. Parents have an option to clear all data anytime they choose to do. By default, we will remove it every week.
