CINECLUB HISTORY:

The beginnings of the Municipal Cineclub have been marked by the film cycles dedicated to Humphrey Bogart or Alfred Hitchcock. It was historic the day that the Franco-Japanese film "The Empire of the Senses" was offered, within the cycle "Themes of our time". It had not premiered in Toledo and the expectation it created was such that a town near Toledo came to charter a bus for their neighbors to come and see it.

It was in the 90s when the idea arose to stop showing old films and to opt for more recent works, in the original version and, in many cases, that were not released in Toledo. "The foundations of the current functioning of the Municipal Cineclub were laid," Hernández Ponos explained.

Another important moment was when in 2005 it was decided to extend the projections to other neighborhoods, first to the CCM headquarters, on Ocaña Street, and soon after to the Polígono neighborhood. "We came to think that we were not going to get good results, but the opposite happened and the number of attendees increased."

If the Cineclub Municipal de Toledo is characterized by something, it is by the loyalty of its viewers. Every week -on Mondays at the C.C. Liberbank, on Calle Talavera, at 8:00 pm; Tuesdays at the Teatro de Rojas at 7:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.; And on Wednesdays at the Sala Thalía del Polígono, at 8:00 p.m.- the rooms are filled with movie fans who have made this event a cultural reference in the city.

For all these reasons, in 2003 the Royal Toledo Foundation awarded one of its awards to the Cineclub for the cultural work that it has been carrying out in the Casco, “a very special memory”, highlighted its creator.

The origin of the cinema clubs in Spain is linked to the cinematographic forums that began in the 60s and 70s in the colleges. Many of them were of poor quality so little by little they disappeared, remaining over time, only those somewhat more professionalized. In addition to Toledo, in Castilla-La Mancha there are others that have been operating for many years, such as Talavera or Cuenca.
