The Vulnerability Assessment Tool (VAT) aims to provide a deterministic assessment of the gaps present in the security systems to protect a given asset, subtracting this analysis from the subjectivity of the assessor and making it as complete and targeted as possible.
Through the operationalization of international standards and best practices, the VAT establishes, for each of the areas considered, a benchmark against which to identify and measure any gaps in the security system. The adoption of a quantitative approach, able to combine different types of risk in a single process (through a specific standardization process), allows to overcome the otherwise inevitable fragmentation of the process of analyzing the vulnerabilities of a given asset.
The methodology used by the VAT is that of the checklist, with closed-ended questions, organized in sections (different according to the type of the site object of the assessment) and whose number varies according to the level of the threat associated with the asset in question.
