Foundation of Thought

Education is the pillar of civilization. The progress of the decline of a nation's civilization correlates strongly with the quality of education applied by the nation. Education is also an evolving process of knowledge transfer in which the development of a dignified civilization begins. Science is a light that illuminates the path of mankind, so that humans can distinguish right from wrong, good and bad, and may and may not. In addition, education is essentially a process of humanizing human beings, namely the process of building a whole person born physically, not only to build human beings who are intelligent, intelligent, and professional, but who are also noble. Thus, education based on the correct philosophy is the main foundation to be able to build a developed and civilized nation.
Law No. 20 of 2003 concerning the National Education System has contained the basic philosophy of education, which signifies that the Indonesian people already know and realize the importance of education for the progress of the nation. In the law in Chapter II Article 2, national education functions to develop capabilities and shape dignified national character and civilization in order to educate the life of the nation. National education also aims to develop the potential of students to become human beings who believe and devote to God Almighty, have noble character, are healthy, knowledgeable, capable, creative, independent, and become democratic and responsible citizens.
The law clearly states that education is intended as a process to shape human beings with character and ethics in order to build a developed and dignified nation. From the law, it is also implied that the most important thing about education is not its purpose, but the process because human beings with character and ethics can only be produced by a process that is also characterized and ethical. Therefore, of the many factors that influence the realization of the functions and objectives of national education, the resource factors of educators and education personnel including education policy planners and education providers are the most decisive factors. Human resources in the field of education must be characterized and ethical in order to realize the ideals of national education.
Sultan Muhammad Syafiuddin Sambas Islamic Religion Institute as one of the higher education providers in Indonesia has actively participated in realizing the functions and objectives of national education, and must establish itself into a character and ethical institution to be able to produce graduates who have character and ethics in accordance with vision of the Institute's mission. Such institutions can only be built when all components of the academics also have good character and ethics in the implementation of the education process.
In connection with the aforementioned thoughts, Sambas IAIS needs to prepare carefully the things that support the program to achieve the goals and functions of the national education. One of these efforts is the availability of guidelines for carrying out educational processes that have character and ethics through the preparation of the Ethics Guidelines for Academicians. This guideline is compiled as a complement to the ethics section that has not been regulated in the laws and regulations and the applicable provisions. Ethical values ​​in this guideline come from religion, state philosophy, science and social manners that apply in society. The Academic Ethics Guidelines can be used as a guide by faculties or other units within the Institute in preparing technical implementation instructions.
