Disasters of the war is a series of 82 engravings by the Spanish painter Francisco de Goya, made between 1810 and 1815. The horror of the war is especially raw and penetrating in this series. The pictures detail the cruelties committed in the War of Spanish Independence.
In Goya's life, only two complete sets of the engravings were printed, one of them given to his friend and art critic Ceán Bermúdez, but they remained unpublished. The first edition appeared in 1863, published on the initiative of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando
