Methodology in injury treatment is designed to facilitate the everyday life of fresh doctors in the injury clinic. The book does not provide a facsimile response, but proposes treatment and follow-up of common acute fractures and soft tissue injuries, with emphasis on conservative treatment. It is by no means a complete textbook, and of course cannot replace the rear guard. But we hope it is useful as a practical pocket-sized guide.
When we started working on the book over 20 years ago, we were fresh-faced doctors, and needed a structured guide for the simplest issues in an injury outpatient clinic. We then made a simple overview for our own use. It turned out that more than us had this need, therefore it became a book. This is the 6th edition. And after the feedback we have received, there is still a need out there. We have received both praise and rice for this book. Most praise. But we appreciate all feedback.
A lot has happened since we first released the Method Book in Injury Treatment. Academically, we gradually move from excellence / experience based medicine to evidence based medicine. The requirement for documentation is increasing, but so is the complexity of the information jungle. Norwegian professional environments have prepared new standards for both radius fractures and hip fracture patients. Head injury management guidelines have also changed. Nevertheless, ultimately we need to apply the sum of knowledge, experience, reason and the patient's preferences. We have tried to update the chapters in line with new knowledge, but without increasing complexity. References are mentioned as footnotes and are also listed at the back. We hope that we can inspire further wonder and research. Orthopedics is a subject of rapid development.
We thank everyone who has been helpful in reading the content and providing comments and professional input. The process started a long time ago in collaboration with some wise and good colleagues at Nordfjordeid Hospital. Since then, many wise and good colleagues have contributed. We are humble and grateful.
