Electoral system
The President of the Central African Republic is elected by a two-round first past the post for a five-year term renewable once. The candidate having obtained the absolute majority of the votes cast in the first round is elected. Failing this, a second round is organized between the two candidates who came first in the first, and the one collecting the most votes is declared elected.
