Edson Gomes (Cachoeira, July 3, 1955) is a Brazilian reggae singer and composer. He is considered by many of the genre to be the biggest name of reggae music in the country. His songs talk about social inequality, violence, poverty, ills, corruption and Brazilian daily life. Edson Gomes' first major musical influence was Tim Maia, he liked to imitate Tim Maia so much that he ended up being known in the city as "Tim Maia de Cachoeira". Today he is considered the "Brazilian Bob Marley".
