In 1983 the then Zootechnics academic, Carlos Alberto Domingues, started his activities after falling in love with the subject of “Beekeeping” in the course. At first, he used it as an income supplement to fund his university, then Carlos met the one who would become his partner, Maria Alcy Diamante, and both worked tirelessly to consolidate the company as one of the largest in the country. In 2001, the group “Apiário Diamante Produção e Comercio de Mel Ltda.” departed for larger flights. The export project began and created “Apiário Diamante Comercial Exportadora Ltda.”, there began the conquest of markets: American, European, Asian and oceanic.
The positive impact of the company and the product offered resulted in a significant increase in exports in 2003, and today, the company has operated with a volume of 3000 tons/year. Due to this increase in demand, the group developed partnerships with producers from other regions of the country, requiring them to follow certain production rules. Exploring other regions, it was possible to offer different types of honey, which differ in aroma, color and flavor. Concerned with sustainable development, in 2002 the company started a social project for organic honey with the German certifier BCS Öko Garantie GmbH (projects in Paraná, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul) and, in 2011, started the project in the states from northeast. The Apiário Diamante group focused its organic projects on environmental preservation areas, where income generation becomes more difficult. However, beekeeping is an activity that can be explored in these areas, as it has little ecological impact and, through pollination, helps the production of seeds and the maintenance of forests.
