WelcomTech. Smart Home Kit to support vulnerable seniors
The WelcomTech smart home kit was created with the aim of taking care of elderly grandparents or family members, as part of the project called WelcomTech, which sees the Piedmont Region for Italy and the Schürch Development Engineering Laboratory as Project Leader Switzerland. The project partners are: Fondazione Istituto Sacra Famiglia Onlus, RSA Massimo Lagostina Onlus, Opera Pia Foundation Dr. Domenico Uccelli Onlus, the Research Center on Media Education for Innovation and Technology of the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart, Municipality of Domodossola with the RSA Samonini Rozio Balassi and the Valle d'Aosta Autonomous Region.
The progressive aging of the population in cross-border territories has produced a constant increase in the demand for services to support older people. The objective of WelComTech, developed in the territories of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola, Valle d'Aosta and Ticino, as part of the Italy-Switzerland cross-border cooperation program, is to allow the aging population to continue to live in the own home environment, even in the most marginal areas, maintaining its autonomy and avoiding hospitalization in the structure.
How WelcomeTech App works:
WelcomTech makes the home where the elderly live a safe and always controlled space. Through the installation of a Smart Home Kit in the subject's homes, data and information are sent to the app present in the mobile devices of the Body, tutors and family members of the elderly.
In this way, continuous and real-time monitoring of the physical and psychological state of the person is possible, and if necessary, it is possible to intervene in response to emergencies and behavioral changes of the individual such as to require hospitalization in adequate structures.
The data displayed through the WelcomeTech App allow the analysis and control of:
- Movements of the elderly
- Access to certain rooms (bathroom, kitchen, etc.)
- Hours of sleep
- Analysis of behavioral habits
- Presence inside the premises
- Time spent in the premises
- Support with emergency light to move in case of absence of electricity
- Alarms with light projection on the access routes (flights of stairs)
The sections of the WelcomeTech App:
- Registration or Login as Admin, Tutor or Family member
- Consultation of the list of the elderly entrusted to the Tutors
- Consultation of the Boards, Operating status
- Daily, weekly, monthly reports
- Personalization for elderly of the behavioral thresholds
- Alarms
- Contact list
- Personal card of the elderly with Tab:
o Analysis
or Board
or Tutor
or Parente
or Map
WelcomTech sensors identify the person's position inside the house and report any abnormal behavior. If your loved one enters and stays in the bathroom too long, opens the refrigerator numerous times, or worse still, he has not returned to sleep for the night, WelcomTech records the data and transmits it promptly to the App, always available to the Tutors and family members of the elderly.
WelcomTech sensors also monitor the elderly person's sleep hours. A special device under the mattress registers the presence of the person in bed and how long he sleeps on average per night. This type of data is also displayed in the app through graphs in the "Analysis" tab.
With the "Board" tab it is possible to view the operating status of the Kit components (battery level, sensors on / off). In the "Tutor" and "Relative" tab, on the other hand, there are direct contacts of those responsible for the elderly who can be warned in the event of an emergency.
