About C-HAT

The C-HAT Program (Critical Habitat Assessment Tool) has been designed to fulfill the objectives of carrying out DFO's (Department of Fisheries and Oceans, Government of Canada) mandate under the Species at Risk Act (SARA) to protect, recover and conserve all listed aquatic SAR in Canada. Critical habitat is identified for species listed as Endangered or Threatened under the Species at Risk Act (SARA). Critical habitats were assembled by SARA regional biologists and recovery teams. They are designed to support the protection and recovery of species listed as Endangered or Threatened under the Species at Risk Act.

C-HAT is a complete habitat assessment tool and system that is scalable and highly adaptive to fit any the habitat assessment requirements. Defining and knowing if any anthropogenic disturbance that is planned will be going to effect the species at risk is critical. C-HAT has been designed to help land owners and field surveyors collect and process the habitat field assessment based on defined DFO SAR criteria and fish biologist while using a Decision Support System.
